Gustavo Santaolalla, the composer of The Last of Us Part 2, has sparked speculation about an enhanced release of the popular survival horror sequel.
In a recent interview with Blender, Santaolalla hinted that his cameo role in the game might be expanded in upcoming “new editions.”
Gustavo Santaolalla’s Expanded Role
Santaolalla made a brief appearance in The Last of Us Part 2 as a survivor named Gustavo, who managed to escape the Cordyceps infection outbreak and found refuge in Jackson.
In this cameo, Gustavo is seen playing the banjo. Santaolalla suggested that in the new versions of the game, players might be able to make Gustavo perform various themes from the game’s soundtrack.
The Possibility of a New Release
While this is far from an official announcement, it’s the first hint of any new editions of The Last of Us Part 2. Given the game’s popularity, it’s plausible that it might be heading to PC, following in the footsteps of its predecessor.
Currently, the game is only available on PlayStation 4, but a PlayStation 5 version could also be in the works.
The Last of Us Part 1’s PC Port
The PC port of The Last of Us Part 1 faced significant criticism upon release due to a range of performance issues, leading to “mostly negative” player reviews. However, a subsequent 25GB patch improved the game’s framerate and fidelity, addressing many of the initial concerns. Valve made it even worse by unsupporting the Last of Us from Steam Deck.
The Last of Us Part 2 has been widely acclaimed, with IGN’s review awarding it a perfect score and describing it as a “masterpiece worthy of its predecessor.” The review praised the game for taking “strides forward in nearly every way,” with Ellie’s character stepping into the spotlight and carrying the sequel in a way that encapsulates Naughty Dog’s memorable blockbuster storytelling.
Well, I wouldn’t be surprised if you were in high hopes before making it here. To make it all worth it (and in case you haven’t heard about the first part yet), here’s our own personal take on The Last of Us Part 1.
