Nintendo Switch Online has expanded its library with the addition of two classic titles from The Legend of Zelda series: Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons.
These Game Boy titles, developed by Capcom subsidiary Flagship, were originally released in 2001 and are now available for Switch Online subscribers.
The Oracle Games: A Unique Zelda Experience
The Oracle games offer distinct narratives depending on the game played. In Oracle of Ages, Link is transported to Labrynna, where he travels through time to thwart the sorceress Veran. In Oracle of Seasons, Link finds himself in Holodrum, where he harnesses the power of the elements to combat General Onox.
A unique feature of these games is the “Linked Game” mechanism, which unlocks additional features and the true endings for both games. This feature can be accessed via specific passwords or by physically linking the two Oracle games together via a Game Boy Link Cable.
The Oracle Games on Nintendo Switch Online
With the arrival of these games on Nintendo Switch Online, players can now enjoy the Oracle games without the need for a Game Boy Link Cable. By updating the Game Boy app to version 1.3.0, Switch Online subscribers can access Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons. The “Linked Game” feature is also available, provided players have a save file from each game.
While Oracle of Ages is known for its challenging gameplay, Oracle of Seasons offers a comparatively easier experience. Regardless of the game chosen, players can look forward to an immersive Zelda adventure.
The Future of the Oracle Games
The addition of the Oracle games to the Nintendo Switch Online service may quell some rumors about potential remakes of these titles. However, given the success of the 2019 remake of Link’s Awakening, it remains to be seen if Nintendo will decide to remake the Oracle games in a similar fashion.
With more players now able to access Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons, it will be interesting to see if any new tricks or secrets will be discovered in these classic Zelda games.
