Ubisoft Reportedly Developing New Ghost Recon Game

Ubisoft, the renowned video game company, is said to be working on a new addition to the Ghost Recon franchise.

This news comes from a reputable gaming insider, despite the mixed reception of the franchise’s most recent installment, Ghost Recon Breakpoint.

Ghost Recon: A New Chapter

The Ghost Recon series, a long-standing Ubisoft franchise, has been offering players thrilling military tactical shooter experiences for over two decades. The games place players in the shoes of a classified U.S. Army Special Forces member, tasked with combating various adversaries. However, the quality of the games has varied over the years.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint, the latest game in the series, received a lukewarm response upon its 2019 launch. Critics and fans alike pointed out that the game seemed to lack a distinct identity, with its mechanics appearing to be a blend of elements from other Ubisoft games.

The game’s heavy reliance on microtransactions was another point of contention. Despite these issues, Ubisoft appears to be developing another Ghost Recon game, according to gaming insider Tom Henderson.

Ubisoft’s Upcoming Projects

Henderson reports that Ubisoft has several projects underway, including highly anticipated releases such as Assassin’s Creed Red, Far Cry 7, and a new Ghost Recon game, currently known under the codename “Project Over.” Despite the codename’s vagueness, Henderson states that these three games have received positive internal feedback, and he has heard “great things” about them as well.

However, not all of Ubisoft’s projects are faring as well.

Henderson notes that some games, such as the open-world pirate game Skull and Bones, have been struggling through development. He suggests that Ubisoft needs to prioritize its projects to avoid overextending its developers.

Ghost Recon’s Future

One of the last controversies surrounding Ghost Recon Breakpoint before its post-launch support was discontinued in 2022 was the integration of the Ubisoft Quartz NFT service. This move was widely criticized by gamers, and the initial market for these NFTs was virtually non-existent.

Given Breakpoint’s tarnished reputation and low sales figures, a new Ghost Recon game might be just what Ubisoft needs to win back gamers. However, more information about this potential new Ghost Recon game is yet to be revealed.
