What You Need to Craft a Lectern
- 1x Crafting Table
- 4x Wood Slab (any type)
- 1x Bookshelf
How to Make Lectern in Minecraft
Collect 1x Crafting Table
The first thing you need to do is to craft some Planks. If you have any Log/Wood/Stripped Log/Stripped Wood in your inventory, press E and put them in the crafting grid to craft 4x Planks.
In case you don’t have any, just look for any trees nearby and chop them down, using either your hand or an ax.
If you can’t find any trees, you can also find Planks in most generated structures in Minecraft like Mineshafts, Villages, Strongholds, Woodland Mansions, and Shipwrecks.
When you have 4x Planks, put them in a 2×2 shape in the crafting grid to craft 1x Crafting Table. Place it down so you can use it later!
Collect 4x Wood Slab
To craft 4x Wood Slab, you will need at least 3x Planks. So make sure to gather some more logs from trees.
When you have enough Planks, right-click the Crafting Table and place 3x Planks in one line to craft 6x Wood Slab.
Remember that you can use any type of wood such as Oak, Spruce, Birch, Jungle, Acacia, Dark Oak, Crimson Stem, and Warped Stem.
Wood Slab can also be found in some generated structures like Igloos, Woodland Mansions, Shipwrecks, and Villages.
So make sure to pay attention to those custom structures for Wood Slab.
Collect 1x Bookshelf
In order to craft 1x Bookshelf, you will need 6x more Planks and 3x Book. Again, let’s chop some more trees for Logs and Planks.
To craft a book, you will first need to find some Sugar Canes. They are green and skinny plants that grow near water.
You can look for river, lake, or ocean biomes to find Sugar Cane. Make sure to save some of them to make a farm later!
Tip: Read our tutorial on how to grow sugar cane in Minecraft.
When you have at least 3x Sugar Cane, right-click the Crafting Table and put them in one line to craft 3x Paper.
Next, you want to get Leather. Cows, Mushrooms, Horses, Donkeys, Mules, Llamas, and Hoglins usually drop 0-2x Leather on death.
And you can always use a Looting III enchantment sword to get up to 5x Leather per animal.
When you have 3x Paper and 1x Leather, put them either in your crafting grid or on the Crafting Table to craft 1x Book. You will need a total of 9x Paper and 3x Leather for 1x Bookshelf.
If you have found any Villages, make sure to check for the Librarian house. They contain at least 3x Bookshelf.
You can use a Silk Touch ax to harvest them. If you break them with a non-Silk Touch tool, they will drop some books instead.
When you have 6x Planks and 3x Book, right-click the Crafting Table for the final time. Then place 3x Book in the middle row, and fill the remaining slots with Planks to craft 1x Bookshelf.
Finish off Crafting a Lectern
Now you have 4x Wood Slab and 1x Bookshelf, use your Crafting Table and put the Bookshelf in the middle grid, then place 3x Wood Slab in the top line, and finish it up with 1x Wood Slab in the bottom middle slot. You will receive 1x Lectern.
Congratulation on your Lectern! You can make a villager trading hall using a Lectern to trade for enchanted books. Or you can just simply use it to decorate your house or make a librarian room.
