Overwatch 2 has been out for a while now, and the game has quickly picked up traction as well as some amount of controversy regarding the gameplay and its styling.
Overwatch 2 is a first-person hero shooter developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment, released as the much-anticipated sequel to the first game.
We will go through the basics and how to get Overwatch 2 for free!
Overwatch 2 Beta Signup
When the beta phase of Overwatch 2 was gearing up for release, we expected a lot from it.
For a long time, existing enthusiastic fans wanted a shake-up to the system, new maps, new modes and new characters. The original game was losing its charm after 6 whole years of release, and content was barely being trickled in.
For the longest time, Overwatch had been a PvP-only game, and once the development of the new title was announced in 2019, Blizzard said that it would share the same environment as the first game. Whatever that meant.
However, Blizzard changed their stance, stating that Overwatch 2 would be a full-fledged sequel. Post that statement Overwatch servers were shut down on October 2, 2022.
This was largely because the older game’s engine would not support the large-scale PvE action that had been designed for the second iteration.
This also included a large amount of the cast of heroes who would get visual redesigns along with changes to their kits if needed.
More on that later.
Overwatch 2 was released in early access on October 4, 2022.
To put it in simple terms, the Overwatch 2 beta signup and the overall early phase was a nightmare for most players. Long queues, bugs, glitches and horrible monetization were a sign of things to come later down the line.
However, this was due in part to a large-scale DDOS attack on the game’s servers on launch day, not to mention the amount of new and returning players that were trying to get on to the game.
This release date was severely rushed according to some leaked documents. This meant that the game launched without the heavily marketed and speculated PvE mode. That’s something completely new for the series in general.
When Does Overwatch 2 Come Out?
Overwatch 2 was launched initially on October 4th, 2022. But due to long queue times and a huge attack on the game servers, players were facing serious downtime as well as not being able to get into the game altogether.
But this has since gone, and the game has become a lot more stable since the initial official release and its debacles.
How to Get Into Overwatch 2
Overwatch 2 is in Season 2 after its release, with the technical difficulties largely fixed and the monetization toned down by a fair amount.
To get Overwatch 2, you will need a Battle.net account.
Visit battle.net and register a new account with your details if you don’t already have one.
Afterward, the game is available for download for free. But make sure you have around 40GB of space for all game files to be downloaded onto your system.
After the game has downloaded, just launch it from the battle.net app on your PC and you are good to go!
Overwatch 2 Season 2 Release Date
The 2nd season of Overwatch was released on 6th December 2022.
Overwatch 2 Season 2 is now live for all players. With oppressive monetization still an issue, it will be very interesting to see where the game goes next.
The biggest addition to this season is the new Tank hero, Ramattra. An Omnic leader, Ramattra shares a lot of traits with another fan-favorite tank, D.Va.
Capable of two forms when playing, Ramattra’s regular form gives him some more mobility along with a substantial damage boost.
The augmented robotic arms and legs he transforms into as part of his ability set enable extra damage and nigh-invulnerability for 8 seconds.
Along with that, we also get a new change to the Control Maps and balance changes to several heroes. Not to mention the Olympic God-themed skins and charms for the heroes!
