Nintendo announced today that they will be adding four classic Sega games to the Nintendo Switch console.
This is the perfect platform for gamers who love classic video games. Starting today, Sega Classics Collection for Nintendo Switch is available in the Nintendo eShop. This collection includes 9 beloved games including Sonic the HedgehogTM 2, Golden AxeTM, Phantasy Star® II, and Streets of Rage® II – making it the perfect console for any old-school gamer!
But wait, didn’t we say there were four classics coming to the scene? Well, without further ado, here are Four Sega Classics Coming to Switch.
Four Sega Classics to be added in Nintendo Switch
Golden Axe II
The Golden Axe series first appeared in arcades in 1989. The original game followed the adventures of a Viking named Ax Battler as he battled through enemies and bosses to save his girlfriend from a magic spell that was turning her into stone. In the sequel, Golden Axe II, players take control of a new character, Gilius Thunderhead, as he battles his way through several levels in an attempt to save Princess Mileena from the evil sorcerer Death Adder.
The Sega classic game takes place in the same world as the original and follows a similar story. It features a redesigned control scheme, new level layouts, and several improvements over the original.
Alien Storm
Play as Rick Hunter or his daughter Amanda as you attempt to stop an intergalactic invasion of Earth by a powerful alien race known as the Gargoyles. You can enjoy multiple gaming modes including Arcade Mode, Survival Mode, Time Attack, and more. You can use a variety of weapons to defeat your enemies, including the Big Blaster and the Big Sword.
Experience colorful graphics that will transport you back to the 1980s and relive the fun of the classic arcade experience in the comfort of your own home. Further, Alien Storm has a series of versions, so you might want to check them out. Learn more.
Columns
One of the four Sega classics, the puzzle game Columns features falling blocks. The goal is to avoid getting crushed by a pile of “columns” that descend from above and crash on top of one another, much like in the famous puzzle game Tetris. The rate at which the columns fall accelerates as the game goes on, making clever column placement crucial to victory.
Each column in Columns consists of three diamonds of a different color layered one on top of the other. Moreover, when three or more gems of the same color line up in a row, column, or diagonal, they are eliminated and the gems above them fall to the bottom of the board. In contrast to Tetris, the game is driven by combinations because of the presence of gravity.
In most versions of the game, completing a series of combos will result in the creation of a “Magic Jewel,” which, when it collides with a regular jewel, destroys all jewels of that color. For this game, a 6×13 grid is used, and points are scored by knocking out gems (players also receive a bonus for starting the game at higher difficulties). As of level 3 in most releases, the player will be presented with hint text.
Virtual Fighter 2
I remember playing Virtual Fighter 2 on my Saturn back in the day. It was one of my favorite games. You can play the original arcade and Sega Saturn versions and rediscover the game’s iconic polygon-based 3-D visuals and slick fighting gameplay. In the brand-new online mode, you may face off against opponents from all around the world.
Sega also has a guide for you to learn the gameplay mechanics of Virtual Fighter 2.
There are a lot of old games that are slowly getting back into the scene. It evokes a feeling of nostalgia — games that you used to play with your friends of the past. You may haven’t heard the news yet, but the nostalgic Battle Realms is now supporting 4K with smoother graphics.
