The long-awaited Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves has finally arrived in theaters and has managed to steal the show at the box office. The movie, which features an all-star cast including Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, and Sophia Lillis, opened to a solid $15.3 million on its first day, which includes $5.6 million from Thursday screenings and specialty previews. The fantasy comedy is playing in 3,855 venues and is projected to finish around $40 million, which would come in at the higher end of estimates heading into the weekend.
Paramount and Entertainment One (eOne) have heavily supported the movie with a sweeping press tour and a premiere at the SXSW Film Festival. eOne, a subsidiary of Hasbro, which controls the Dungeons & Dragons intellectual property, has covered a fraction of the film’s $150 million production budget.

Honor Among Thieves has received strong reviews from critics, with an 89% approval rating from top critics on Rotten Tomatoes. In Variety’s review, chief film critic Owen Gleiberman called the movie “at once cheesy and charming, synthetic and spectacular, cozily derivative and rambunctiously inventive, a processed piece of junk-culture joy that, by the end, may bring a tear to your eye.”
Audiences have also shown their approval. Honor Among Thieves received an “A-” grade through research firm Cinema Score, indicating that the adventure entertained the first round of ticket buyers.
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves follows a group of adventurers who must unite to defeat an evil Red Wizard. The movie stars Chris Pine as the singing bard Edgin Darvis, Michelle Rodriguez as the ferocious barbarian Holga Kilgore, Regé-Jean Page as powerful paladin Xenk Yendar, Justice Smith as the wild magic sorcerer Simon Aumar, and Sophia Lillis as the tiefling druid Doric. Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley direct the movie.
‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ falls second on the box office charts.
While Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves has dominated the box office, John Wick: Chapter 4 has fallen to second place in its second week. The Keanu Reeves action epic drew $7.8 million on Friday and is projected to have a $28 million haul for the weekend. John Wick should boost its domestic gross to $122.6 million through Sunday. The film has already surpassed the North American finishes of the first two John Wick entries and has now set its sights on blowing away Chapter 3 – Parabellum.
‘His Only Son’ opens in third place on the domestic charts
Angel Studios has released the religious film His Only Son this weekend, which is making a notable dent on domestic charts, looking at a potential third-place finish with a projected $5.7 million haul from 1,920 venues. The Christian drama, which follows Abraham after he is commanded to kill his son, has certainly found its audience, landing an “A” grade on Cinema Score.
