Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (Blade Of Demon Destruction) is the latest anime sensation from Japan.
The first season came out in 2019 and became the eighth best-selling anime in February 2021. It’s the story of a teenage boy who becomes a demon hunter and killer after one kills his entire family.
In October 2020, a Demon Slayer movie was released, which followed the Mugen Train arc. The movie was titled ‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train,’ and it became the most successful anime movie of all time.
One of the biggest reasons for its success is the charming characters. Even though they are extraordinarily powerful, they are still relatable.
Now the second season is underway, which will further explore the Mugen Train arc. That means there will be plenty more action and a lot more characters from Demon Slayer manga entering the TV series universe.
Demon Slayer Characters: Demon Slayers Names & Info
1. Tanjiro Kamado
Age: 15 Years Class: Demon Slayer
Tanjiro Kamado is the protagonist of this demon world. He starts a demon-slaying journey after Muzan Kitbutsuji kills his family and turns his sister into a demon. While on his journey to find his sister, he joins forces with the Demon Slayer Corps.
Although Tanjiro’s primary focus is to find a cure for her sister to revert her to human form, he also strives to kill as many demons as possible, so no one else has to suffer, as he once did.
To do that, Tanjiro continuously trains, develops new skills, and achieves more power with each passing day at the Demon Slayer Corps. His powers include superhuman abilities, including super strength, speed, heightened sense of smell, immense stamina, and more.
Tanjiro’s main choice of weapon is a sword. His extraordinary aim, quick reflexes, and his ability to predict attacks make him one of the best swordsmen in the Demon Slayer universe.
Fun Fact: Muzan, the Demon King, once turned Tanjiro into a demon when the Corps killed Muzan. But, Tamayo’s humanizing potion saved the day.
2. Nezuko Kamado
Age: 14 Years Class: Demon
Nezuko Kamado is the younger sister of Tanjiro, and she is part of the reason Tanjiro became a demon slayer.
Nezuko was merely 12 years old when Muzan Kibutsuji turned her into a demon. Since then, she has aged mentally but remains the same physically. After turning into a demon, Nezuko lost all her memories.
Somehow, the memories of her brother Tanjiro are still with her. That’s why she still protects Tanjiro when he falls while fighting Giyu.
Nezuko differs from the other demons in the show. She does not need to absorb humans to stay alive. She is also one of the strongest demons in the Demon Slayer universe. The Demon King himself called Nezuko the ‘chosen demon’ when he saw Nezuko’s abilities.
Spoiler Alert: Nezuka kicked off the Temple Demon’s head during a fight.
Nezuko has the ‘awakened form’ in her armory, with which she exponentially grows in power and stature. At first, it was involuntary, but now Nezuka can control her powerful form and transform at will.
Her biggest flex has to be the sunlight immunity. Unlike other demons, Nezuka can walk around in sunlight without turning into ash. That’s why the Demon King Muzan is now hunting Nezuko so he can absorb her abilities.
3. Zenitsu Agatsuma
Age: 16 Years Class: Demon Slayer
Have you ever heard of a character who is more powerful when asleep rather than awake? Well, Zenitsu Agatsuma is one of those.
Although capable, Zenitsu has very low self-esteem. He has no confidence in his abilities and continuously doubts his decision and powers. His intuition is to run away from a fight rather than face it head-on.
But not when he is asleep or unconscious. Sometimes, he gets so scared that he passes out. That’s when we get to enjoy his superhuman strength and unmatched combat intellect and the famous finish of Thunderclap and Flash Godspeed. He once killed an Upper-Rank demon all alone.
Fun Fact: Zenitsu had black hair as a child, but lightning turned it orange. Sadly, it didn’t turn him into a super-fast meta-human.
4. Inosuke Hashibira
Age: 15 Years Class: Demon Slayer
You know how every anime has an outsider, a misfit who tries to do too much- that’s Inosuke Hashibira. He continuously overestimates his skills and power levels and challenges anyone to a fight who disagrees. He is more than capable of handling his own but loses focus and loses the fight while trying to prove his skill.
Insokue was raised by boars, away from any human interaction. He is oblivious to human nature, doesn’t trust anyone, and can’t seem to grasp the concept of kindness. He also can’t write or read, sometimes referring to Tanjiro as Monchiro.
As the series progresses, Insokue is learning a lot from Tanjiro and the Demon Slayer Corps. Fans are looking forward to his character development, and so are we.
The fact that he passed the Final Selection of the Demon Slayer Corps without any formal training is a testament to his abilities.
He possesses super strength, insane flexibility, and incredible speed. Inosuke can also withstand certain demon poisons, as he has developed immunity to a lot of poisons, drugs, and potions.
But his best ability has to be his heightened sense of touch and spatial awareness. Using this, he can feel and locate anyone within a certain radius.
He can also sense the intentions of an enemy, which gives him an edge over them.

5. Sakonji Urokodaki
Age: 60+ Class: Demon Slayer (Ex-Hashira)
Sakonji Urukodaki is the mentor of Tanjiro Kamado and Giyu Tomioka. He was once a Water Hashira at the Demon Slayer Corps. Now he is a retired Demon Slayer who trains the best Water Breathing swordsmen.
While training Tanjiro, Sakonji also helped Nezuko control her demonic powers. He is also the only member of the Demon Slayer Corps who believes Nezuko’s no-human-absorption ability because he planted the hypnosis in Nezuko’s brain.
Sakonji is a mysterious character. No one knows about his past; there is no confirmation of his age either. All we know is that he seems like a grumpy old man, but he is kind and loving- and a very good mentor at that.
He is also a very normal human being; no super strength, speed, or heightened reflexes. Sakonji is only a master swordsman, and that is enough.
Weird Trivia: Sakonji wears the red mask because the demons make fun of his apparently gentle and soft face.
6. Kanao Tsuyuri
Age: 16 Years Class: Demon Slayer
Kanao Tsuyuri is a major supporting character who has a complete back story of her own, similar to that of Tanjiro Hamado. She started her demon-slaying when she saw what demons could do to her loved ones.
Kanao is one of the most layered characters of this anime and manga series. From a difficult and painful childhood to being taken in by the Kocho sisters, Kanao is a very silent, indecisive, and repressed girl.
She doesn’t talk much, barely makes any decisions of her own without flipping a coin first, but is powerful enough to keep up with the Demon King.
She is the fastest of all the Demon Slayers in terms of speed and reflexes. Kanao is faster than Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu. She also has super strength and an enhanced vision.
Even though she is blind in the right eye, Kanao can predict enemy attacks just by looking at the eye and body movements.
7. Genya Shinazugawa
Age: 16 Years Class: Demon Slayer
The younger brother of the Wind Hashira, Sanemi Shinaguzawa, Genya is a hot-headed demon slayer with the darkest back-story. He watched his demonized mother kill his younger siblings and father. Then, he stood by as Sanemi killed his mother. So, we don’t blame him for being anti-social and a hothead.
He is also a bit different from other demon slayers in terms of his capabilities and weapon of choice. Where most demon slayers prefer a ‘katana,’ Genya uses a double-barrel shotgun to hunt and kill his targets.
But perhaps the biggest difference is that Genya can absorb demon abilities. After he kills a demon, Genya would eat their flesh or hair strands which gives him their powers, albeit temporarily.
Genya was once able to reattach his severed limbs after eating Kokushibo’s hair.
Demon Slayer Characters: Hashira
8. Sanemi Shinazugawa
Age: 21 Years Class: Wind Hashira
Insanemi Shinaguzawa would have been a better fit for this Wind Hashira. He acts just as crazy as he looks. In the manga series, Sanemi is one of the most feared Hashira with limitless combat abilities. As for anime, we would say that they haven’t even scratched the surface yet with this character.
He didn’t think twice before killing his demonized mother, just to save his younger brother Genya Shinaguzawa.
When it comes to power, Sanemi is the second-strongest Hashira out of the new line of Hashira’s. Tanjiro once said, ‘Sanemi moved across me so fast that it seemed he teleported.’
He is also a master swordsman and a weapon expert who can wield almost any weapon with ease. He can also manipulate his muscles to close out flesh wounds and stop the bleeding.
Another reason for his success against demons is his intoxicating blood. Sanemi has one of the rarest blood types, which can cause demons to lose focus.
9. Giyu Tomioka
Age: 21 Years Class: Water Hashira
Giyu Tomioka is one of the most powerful out of all the current Hashira. He is also one of the most experienced ones, having fought Upper Rank 3 demon Akaza and the Demon King himself. Giyu likes to work alone and finish the job as quickly as possible, which sometimes gets him into trouble too.
Giyu’s inhuman strength and speed are well-recognized by his subordinates at the Demon Slayer Corps. Giyu even managed to outpace one of the fastest demons, Akaza, who then offered to turn Giyu into a demon.
Fun Fact: Giyu once caused a small snowstorm just by swinging his Katana a few times.
Sometimes he needs help from others to get the job done, but he certainly has the power to hold his own until help arrives.
10. Shinobu Kocho
Age: 18 Years Class: Insect Hashira
Shinobu Kocho is another supporting character who joined the Demon Slayer Corps after a demon killed her parents. Then, she also lost her sister, Kanae Kocho, which affected her personality greatly.
The Insect Hashira gives the girl-next-door vibes with a big smile on her face at all times, but in reality, she is just hiding the anger, rage, and hatred under the sweet and innocent smile.
That said, she isn’t as strong as the other Hashira. Her physical strength is like an average Demon Slayer. She overpowers her foes with her immense speed and agility by using a specially modified version of the Katana sword.
Instead of trying to decapitate, she poisons the demons because she modified her sword into a stinger.
Her extensive knowledge of poisons, potions, and drugs makes her an important member of the Demon Slayer Corps and Hashira.
11. Kyojuro Renguko
Age: 20 Years Class: Flame Hashira
A former Flame Hashira who took center stage in Demon Slayer: The Movie. He is one of the calmest, most collected, and most intelligent demon slayers in the anime. Even though he hates the demons just as much as any other Harisha and Demon Slayer, he likes to keep calm while finishing them up.
He is also the only self-taught Hashira. He learned everything from the Flame Breathing book, passed the Final Selection, and became a Hashira all by himself.
Because he was part of a long lineage of Flame Hashira, Kyojuro had access to all the combat and tactical knowledge he could ever need. He learned Total Concentration Breathing, improved his sensory perceptions, and developed immense endurance.
However, that wasn’t enough to survive the Upper Rank 3 demon, Akaza.
12. Tengen Uzui
Age: 23 Years Class: Sound Hashira
Tengen Uzui’s backstory is a nice change from the typical demon slayer characters because of his totally different past. Tengen didn’t become a demon slayer out of hatred or revenge, he became a demon slayer to give purpose to his life.
Tengen is a trained Ninja who was tricked into killing his own siblings. After that, he decided to lead a different life away from his clan. He was done following orders but wasn’t ready to give up fighting just yet. So, he joined the Demon Slayer Corps and quickly became the Sound Hashira.
Tengen is someone who has immense capabilities and wants everyone else to acknowledge those. His unique abilities, like amplified hearing, allow him to listen to voices across an entire area while sitting in one place. He also uses his hearing for echolocation to find hidden passages and prowling demons.
He also has poison resistance, but not as strong as Inosuke Hashibira.
Demon Slayer Characters: Demon King
13. Muzan Kibutsuji
Age: 10,000+ Years Class: Demon King
You are looking at the main antagonist and the most powerful demon of the Demon Slayer universe. He is the Demon King. Don’t be fooled by the good looks. He is a ruthless killer who would kill humans in a heartbeat and turn his fellow demons into ash if they dare cross him.
He has been around for over 10,000 years and only sees himself as the perfect being. His powers include human and demon absorption, telepathy, manipulation, super strength and speed, regeneration, and so much more. As the OG demon, it’s difficult to scale the levels of Muza’s power.
It will be fun to see how the Demon Slayers and Hashira manage Muzan considering he has more power than all of them combined.
Fun Fact: Muzan Kibutsuji continuously shapeshifts when meeting smaller rank demons.
