A new cooperative survival game, currently known as Codename: Islands, is set to offer a unique gaming experience for fans of the genre.
Drawing inspiration from popular titles like Minecraft, Valheim, and Terraria, this 16-player game is being developed by Treehouse Games, a team comprising several veterans from Riot Games.
A Magical, Living Island
Codename: Islands transports players to an uncharted ocean world, where they must work together to establish a settlement on a magical, living island. The game allows up to 16 friends to share a world where they can build a continuously evolving home, explore nearby islands, craft powerful gear, battle monsters, and awaken the spirit of their island.
While the teaser doesn’t reveal much about the gameplay, it does show a group of adventurers arriving on a tropical island and using magic to awaken an entity in front of some tall rune stones, reminiscent of the sacrificial stones in Valheim.
A Social Game for Friends
Michael Chu, former product manager at Riot Games and co-founder of Treehouse Games, expressed his love for social games that allow quality time with friends.
He noted that multiplayer games often focus on brutal competition, whereas Codename: Islands aims to provide a space for friends to hang out and have fun together.
Whether players enjoy base-building, gathering, exploring, fighting world bosses, or crafting unique gear, they will play an essential role in their group.
A Glimpse into the Game
The gameplay reveals cozy-looking bases and serene island views with intriguing structures and landmarks in the distance.
While the game isn’t set to launch until 2024, Treehouse Games plans to share a full game announcement with playtest sign-ups in late 2023.
Here’s a trailer to take a sneak peek into its game visuals.
