Let’s take a look at one of these series stalwarts, one of the most iconic characters of an already iconic franchise, Chun-Li.
So is Chun-Li Street Fighter 6 a gaming reality?
Chun–Li – The Past
An excellent hand-to-hand combatant, actor as well as talented in her job as an investigator, Chun-Li is also incredibly attractive and is consistently voted among the best-looking video game characters of all time.
Street Fighter II
Chun-Li holds the distinction of being the first female character in the franchise, introduced in the first version of Street Fighter II as an Interpol agent trying to figure out the ongoings of Shadaloo, and figure out where M. Bison, the murderer of her father, is.
Street Fighter Alpha
As with every other character on the roster, Chun-Li’s past was explored in the Alpha spin-off series in Street Fighter Alpha. Here, we see a younger version of her becoming a detective with Interpol and starting the hunt for M. Bison.
Street Fighter Alpha 2
In Alpha 2, Chun-Li gets to meet and spar with her father’s old friend, Gen, who reveals that the man who killed her father was none other than M. Bison himself.
Her resolve to take down Shadaloo doubled, Chun-Li faces Bison in battle, but is promptly defeated, and Bison escapes.
Street Fighter Alpha 3
In Alpha 3, Chun-Li teams up with Charlie Nash, a member of the United States Air Force. Together, they try to hunt Bison down to make him pay for the crimes that he has committed.
Eventually meeting up with another Air Forces member, Guile, they track down and destroy the Shadaloo base in Thailand. They do so successfully as Ryu defeats the warmonger.
Street Fighter III
In Street Fighter III, we resume our journey with present-day Chun-Li. She was one of the primary cast members of the game.
In the story however, there isn’t much going on, as she is still recovering from a life spent chasing Bison and Shadaloo, and explores herself by traveling the world and eventually helping defeat Gill, the primary antagonist of the 3rd game.
Street Fighter IV
Leading up to the events of the 4th mainline installment in the series, Chun-Li is heavily tracking the activities of a resurgent Shadaloo as well as Bison.
On the other hand, a new organization S.I.N comes to the fore, with a shadowy leader – Seth.
With Abel, Guile and the rest of the cast, Chun- Li tracks down Seth and the S.I.N HQ. In the ensuing chaos, Chun-Li makes her way out of the exploding base and is saved from sure death by Gen, who she sees returning after a long time.
Street Fighter V
In the 5th game’s story, Chun-Li and Guile investigate the creation of Black Moons by Bison. After another battle with him, Chun-Li is defeated yet again because of her recklessness. Despite that, she picks herself up and continues chasing him.
In the finale of the game, Chun-Li is seen saving Li Fen and running out of the Shadaloo base along with Guile as it explodes.
Chun-Li Street Fighter 6: Is She Returning?
As confirmed in the trailers and the beta, yes, Chun-Li is making an appearance in the next game in the series.
Being one of the core members of the cast, Chun-Li in SF6 should come as no surprise to the series veterans.
Her moveset this time around is largely the same, but there have been a lot of changes to her style and stance, which should be exciting to see once the full release happens!
