The first Avatar movie was nothing short of a revolution in cinema. Everyone remembers when this movie premiered back in 2009. The movie had the best CGI yet, and it caused quite a lot of interest from all over the globe. Both critics and fans loved it, and even after more than a decade after its release, people still talk about it. The logical thing was to make a sequel that will continue the franchise.
The leading man behind this project is legendary director James Cameron. He is a well-known face in Hollywood since he is responsible for so many memorable movies that have appeared over the years. Probably the best-known movie he ever made was “Titanic.” However, we would like to say that Avatar will take first place from “Titanic” simply because it influenced the industry.
Because of the success of the first title, James Cameron decided to film a sequel known as “Avatar: The Way of the Water.” The movie is released, and millions of people from all over the globe can’t wait to see it. It is important to say that a lot of the cast that appeared in the first movie will appear in the sequel. Today, we want to talk about those that have found their place in the new James Cameron masterpiece.
Sam Worthington
The protagonist of the first movie, Jake Sully, will appear in the sequel. Once again, the actor reasonable for this character will be Sa Worthington. Sam Worthington is an exceptionally talented actor that has appeared in a wide array of popular movies over the years, such as “Terminator Salvation” and “Clash of the Titans.” He frequently collaborated with James Cameron before and after the first Avatar movie.
Probably his best-known title besides Avatar is “Hacksaw Ridge.” Even though he wasn’t the main protagonist of the movie, he has made a significant mark, and this was one of the titles that contributed to what his career is now. In the first movie, his character starts as a human who transforms into a Na’vi warrior. We are so glad that we will be able to see the continuation of his adventure.
Zoe Saldana
Another character returning to the sequel is Neytiri. The character is significant to the story since she is one of the protagonists and the love interest of Sam Worthington’s character. The character is played by Zoe Saldana. Back in 2009, she gave numerous interviews where she talked about how much of an honor it is for her to work with James Cameron at the beginning of her career. Think just how important this role was for her.
There is one exciting story regarding her work while filming the first movie. She was able to hold her breath for five minutes underwater. Regarding her career, she has participated in numerous popular titles such as “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Star Trek” and many more. She is not only an actor but also a producer. So far, she has produced nine movies during her career.
Sigourney Weaver
Sigourney Weaver is another powerhouse actor that appeared in Avatar, and she will reprise her role in the sequel. There are a lot of things we can say about this legendary actress, but we would like to say that she made her name well-known by being a part of the “Alien” franchise. In this franchise, her character was named Ripley, who has fighting through the hordes of aliens, which was quite fun.
She worked with numerous great directors such as Ridley Scott and James Cameron. We would agree that adding her to the Avatar cast was one of the best choices made for the movie. She has stated numerous times that her appearance in the first title was an honor for him. Last year, she confirmed she will reprise her role, and that the fans will be more than surprised with what the sequel has in store for them.
Stephen Lang
The villain of the first installment in the franchise, Colonel Miles Quaritch, played by Stephen Lang, will return in the next movie. It is easily one of the most interesting characters in the movie. Not only that his character is intimidating, but he is also widely regarded as one of the most interesting antagonists in modern cinema. Stephen Lange is a phenomenal actor who has made a lot of memorable roles.
Probably the first role that put him on the map was in “Manhunter.” For those who don’t know, we are talking about the first title that had Thomas Harris’s novel “Red Dragon” as the source material. Also, we want to point out his exceptional role in “Don’t Breathe” which was released in 2016. Naturally, there are countless other memorable movies where he appeared, but we think that Avatar will be the most prominent one in his career.
Kate Winslet
Finally, we want to talk about Kate Winslet. Different from other actors who appear in the sequel, she didn’t appear in the first movie. However, she has significant experience working with James Cameron before. She was the protagonist of Cameron’s best-known title “Titanic”, alongside Leonardo Di Caprio. That role made her world-famous, and her career was on the up since.
Another prominent role of Kate Winslet is her appearance in “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.” One of the things we want to point out is that her appearance in Avatar is that she has a lot of experience working as a voice actor, which is a crucial part of this franchise. We can’t wait to see what her character will do in the sequel.
