ACMA Takes Action Against More Illegal Offshore Gambling Sites

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) is stepping up its efforts to combat illegal offshore gambling by taking action against five additional websites.

The targeted sites include Reef Reels, Royal Reels, Ricky Casino, Slots Gallery, and Slotastic, all of which have been found to be in violation of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.

ACMA’s Ongoing Efforts to Curb Illegal Gambling

Since November 2019, when ACMA made its first blocking request, a total of 803 illegal and affiliate websites have been blocked. Moreover, over 200 illicit services have been withdrawn from the Australian market since ACMA began enforcing rules against unlawful offshore gambling in 2017.

The ACMA has requested Australian internet service providers (ISPs) to block these five sites. This move follows the blocking of 12 websites last month and three additional sites in May.

The Risks of Illegal Gambling

The ACMA has issued a reminder to consumers about the risks associated with using illegal gambling services. Even if a service appears to be legitimate, it is unlikely to provide essential customer protections. As a result, Australians who use illegal gambling services run the risk of losing their money.

To help consumers, the ACMA maintains a register where individuals can check if a wagering service is licensed to operate in Australia. Currently, the record lists 67 licensed TABs, corporate bookmakers, and betting exchanges.
