Unlike most game franchises, Persona is a lot about spin-offs. There’s just so much content and so many fan preferences, the devs and the creators can take it up as and how they want with an artistic freedom that’s rarely there in any other franchise.
Persona 5 Tactica is a spin-off. It is ‘Tactica’ and not ‘Tactics’ but hold on to this thought.
Persona 5 Tactica will be a strategy-styled RPG, a first for the Shin Megami Tensei series in what looks to me as a trial or pilot run for something a lot bigger down the line.
Here’s everything we know about Persona 5 Tactica so far.
Persona 5 Tactica Release Date
The official release date is on November 17, 2023.
You can preorder Persona 5 Tactica right from Nintendo or from Sega. The standard edition is priced at $59.99 while the Digital Deluxe Edition is at $79.99.
Persona 5 Tactica will have an easy download size of 6.9 GB and don’t worry it has an ESRB Teen rating.
The trailer’s up top.
Storyline | Gameplay
The game starts off with the Phantom Thieves in a new storyline. The team takes on the dictator Lady Marie in a different alternate universe (it does not look like the Persona 5 metaverse) and her Legionaries.
The Phantom Thieves add the revolutionary Erina to their ranks to battle the dictatorship.
That’s all there is to know about the Persona 5 Tactica storyline so far, based on trial gameplay release to select media outlets like Gamespot.
But where Persona 5 Tactica really shines is the new tactical gameplay setup.
Atlus always had the smarts and they’ve overhauled the turn-based and almost static combat system for a full-blown strategy and position-based battle style. Check out the gameplay teaser video up top.

Sharing similarities with Final Fantasy Tactics and a bit of XCOM, P5 Tactica lets you take charge of each character, change positions and attack (or forfeit the attack turn.)
Each character has their own unique melee and ranged attacks, perfectly in tune with how we’ve known them so far.
Positioning plays a key role in how combat plays out. Ducking behind cover is part of the gameplay. Position your characters correctly to initiate a multi-character attack (a.k.a. Triple Threat Attack.)
Each battle comes with additional objectives, chances to get bonus rewards, asking players to find out the best combat strategy.
Bottomline – Atlus might just have revolutionized JRPG/SRPG combat forever with a more interactive experience that’s almost open-ended.
Expect unique enemies and additional elements on the battle stage like exploding barrels, Dash Squares, unique skills (and its Voltage Gauge), a deeper skill tree, weapon crafting/forging and Baton Pass (backup from standby units in your team if your ally is knocked out in a battle), and a lot more surely that’ll show up on game release.
Persona 5 Tactica Characters Overview
Character Name | Description |
---|---|
Protagonist (Joker) | Joker leads the Phantom Thieves. We know all about him. |
Erina | Erina is the new playable character in Persona 5 Tactica. She’s the leader of the Rebel Corps. Erina’s now sided with the Phantom Thieves, a bright rebel who’s never shy to take the initiative with zest. She’s reckless though. |
Toshiro Kasukabe | Toshiro might be the next Prime Minister in the making but he was trapped in an alternate world only to be rescued by the Phantom Thieves. He can see the big picture and help the team make the best of a scenario. But he prefers to avoid combat. |
Morgana | A mysterious entity, this black cat can speak and acts as the guide and mascot of the Phantom Thieves. Clearly, Morgana knows more of the world than anyone else. |
Ryuji Sakamoto | Ryuji is the hothead but with a dash of empathy. He fights for the oppressed and is a close associate of the Protagonist. |
Ann Takamaki | Ann is strong-willed but with a kind heart. She sacrificed herself to save her best friend. Upon awakening her Persona, she joined the Phantom Thieves and is now a key member. |
Yusuke Kitagawa | The artist, Yusuke is eccentric, aesthetic, and brilliant. While his artwork draws critical attention, he’s a key member of the troop too. |
Makoto Niijima | The 3rd year high school student council president, Makoto is the second-in-command for more than just her seniority. She has a lot of combat skills under her belt too. |
Futaba Sakura | A crazy genius hacker, Futaba found it hard to socialize. But she regained her true memories and reawakened her Persona. She is the Navigator for the team, the crucial rear support. |
Haru Okumura | The calm and gentle heir to Okumura Foods, Haru is just but dreamy. |
These are all the Persona 5 Tactica playable characters we know about so far.
Persona 5 Tactica will come with a lot of packs that’ll include additional content or characters or both. The Digital Deluxe exclusive will include a whole family of Picaros and the Raoul persona and a Weapon Pack.
You can get the Weapon Pack or the Limited-time Persona pack including only Orpheus and Izanagi Picaro separately as well. Check out the official Nintendo page here.
Will Persona 5 Tactica be on PC?
Persona 5 Tactica will release almost everywhere so yes it will be on Windows PC and Mac. We can only hope Atlus has resolved the common first loading crashes of Persona 5 Royal on Mac.
Will Persona 5 Tactica be on Game Pass?
Persona 5 Tactica will surely be on Xbox Game Pass right from its release date. Nintendo’s launching P5 Tactica across almost all platforms including Xbox X/S making it an automatic Game Pass launch as well.
Will Persona 5 Tactica be on Switch?
Persona 5 Tactica will release on Switch this 17th November. The Persona series is one of Nintendo’s (and Sega’s) key game releases optimized for the handheld gaming experience of the Switch, comparable only to Valve’s Steam Deck.
Is Persona 5 Tactica coming to Steam?
Persona 5 Tactica is coming to Steam this 17th November. This P5 spin-off is Nintendo’s key tactic for a sleeper-hit series that brings in even non-anime fans. With the overhauled gameplay and pop P5 characters, Nintendo are hoping to keep the Steam player count high and happy for some time with Persona 5 Tactica.
While we do have a lot to go on, I’m sure Nintendo’s kept the best parts of Persona 5 Tactica unreleased and still well under wraps. The good thing about sharing pre-release teasers is that you don’t push fans to look for leaks. About that, and while you wait for P5 Tactica, here’s the latest on GTA 6 leaks!
