What is the Grand Dragon in Stellaris?
Out of all the Guardians introduced when the Ancient Relics DLC dropped in Stellaris, Shard or The Grand Dragon as she is more commonly known, is one of note.
How Do You Encounter Shard in Stellaris?
Somewhat Similar to the Ether Drake in the style of violence she propagates, Shard appears in the player character’s system after the Kleptomaniac Rats Archaelogy Site excavation.
Another thing to note. If the Relic World is colonized, Shard can destroy it in just 2 years. So, if you must, it is important to take her out before that happens.
Defeating the Stellaris Grand Dragon
Now, the excavation of the site already requires the colonization of the First League Precursors’ home system; you can be proactive and install a counter to the Shard if and when she decides to make her appearance.
There are multiple ways that you can go about defeating Shard. But a minimum fleet power of 20k is required to take her on. However, it is recommended that you carry around 50-60k fleet power just to be safe.
Additionally, you can contact the Science Enclave and get a damage bonus for them for some credits.
Since Shard has no defence (basically no shields) you can just fit your fleet with anti-hull and anti-armor weapons to deal devastating damage. Shard also deals less damage to shields, so you don’t need to worry too much about actual defence in the battle.
Shard has 150,000 hull points and 105,000 armor, with 0 shields, 160 speed and 25% evasion for stats.
Rewards for Defeating the Stellaris Grand Dragon
The reward you get after you take down the Grand Dragon is a Rubricator Relic. Post that, you begin an Opportunity quest known as A Dirge for the Shard.
The Rubricator Relic is an absolute necessity if you plan on using minor artefacts later on in the game.
