From all sorts of anime and movie collaborations to The Witcher — let’s all welcome Geralt of Rivia to Fortnite!
What started as a modest spin on the battle royale genre has exploded into one of the most profitable franchises in the history of video games. The free-to-play game Fortnite has evolved into a cultural sensation thanks to its integration of licensed content from a wide variety of other media.
Fortnite is a hub for the world of culture, with crossovers ranging from My Hero Academia to Star Wars to other games like Horizon: Zero Dawn and Halo, and soon it will welcome Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher.
Geralt from The Witcher 3
Geralt of Rivia is the protagonist of The Witcher series. He is a white-haired, yellow-eyed mutant who hunts down and kills the most dangerous beasts on The Continent for money. Geralt isn’t the first video game figure to make the jump to Fortnite, nor is he the first crossover character to originate from an adult-themed game, but his presence in the game is distinct from that of Kratos and Master Chief.
After being hinted at the end of Fortnite’s Chapter 3 finale event, Geralt of Rivia will soon be available among the other Season 1 Battle Pass rewards in Fortnite’s upcoming Chapter 4. The Doom Slayer, the game’s ruthless protagonist, has joined the fray with the release of the newest Battle Pass, and players can get him by simply progressing through the Battle Pass’s levels. The secrets of Geralt, on the other hand, may require more effort.
The Witcher goodies will be joining Geralt as well
The in-game clock of Fortnite says that Geralt of Rivia will join the game on February 7, 2023. Players should be able to find Geralt’s tab on the Battle Pass page for Fortnite and click on it. Here, players can see all of the rewards that have to do with The Witcher that they can earn. The loading screen art shows a scary-looking Geralt staring right back at the player. There’s also a spray, an emote that lets the player cast the Igni Sign, a Witcher sword harvesting tool, and the main skin is based on Geralt’s look from The Witcher 3.
There’s an interesting second section of rewards on the page. The first set of Witcher-themed items came out three weeks ago, so these mystery items should come out at the end of February. Even though we still haven’t got a clue about the rewards, it seems likely that they will also have a The Witcher theme. Most likely, these extra rewards are fancier versions of the standard The Witcher rewards, like a different look for Geralt, a new Sign emote, and another harvesting tool based on a different sword from the game.
How do you unlock rewards?
To get The Witcher rewards, players will likely have to complete a unique set of mission goals. For example, to get the main Geralt skin, players will need to complete a certain number of mission goals. Long-time Fortnite fans will be very familiar with this system, as it was used to unlock the Indiana Jones skin in Chapter 3 and the Mandalorian skin in Chapter 2. Geralt’s missions will probably have goals that have something to do with The Witcher, like going to places that have something to do with The Witcher, collecting items or weapons that have something to do with The Witcher, or maybe even fighting some unique NPC monsters that could show up around the island.
But before you go, I have a dare for you: if you get Geralt’s skin, use and abuse the Shockwave Hammer glitch and let me know what it looks like.
